Slow mornings, great coffee.
Where we send our guests for their first cup and their favorite breakfast. Start with our neighbors at JOEHNS, then branch out to a few San Diego classics.
JOEHNS Coffee
JOEHNS is a neighborhood coffeehouse in the Webster community, a short walk from Lyon's Den. Owners Joe and John and their team are some of the best people you'll meet in San Diego. They make their own syrups, serve your drink in a real mug and know their regulars by name. Stop in once and you'll be one of them.
Worth the line.
For the sit-down breakfast, these are the spots locals line up for. All four are a 10–13 minute drive from the house.
Madi
Bright, buzzy and one of the most-loved brunch spots in San Diego. The menu covers fluffy brioche French toast and some of the best breakfast burritos in town.
Kensington Cafe
A cozy Adams Avenue cafe with a big, sunny patio. The menu has fun twists on breakfast classics, the portions are generous and there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
Good Measure
Order at the vintage trailer, then grab a booth on a colorful, sunny patio. The classics are elevated and the coffee program is excellent.
The Vibe
A bright, open-air brunch spot that lives up to its name. Expect pretty plates, creative lattes and mimosa flights that were made for the group chat.
After breakfast.
Once breakfast is done, San Diego's best days out are all within a 20-minute drive of the house.
Balboa Park
Spanish-style architecture, lush gardens and more than 20 museums and cultural spaces, all in one walkable park. Wander for an hour or make a whole day of it.
San Diego Zoo
One of the best-known zoos in the world, set in lush, shaded gardens. The Skyfari aerial tram and the guided bus tour are included with admission.
Coronado Beach
A wide, sparkling stretch of sand in front of the iconic Hotel del Coronado. The drive over the bay bridge is half the fun.
Liberty Station
The former Naval Training Center is now one of San Diego's favorite hangouts, with a buzzing food hall, an arts district, shops and green space along the water.
Underbelly
Rich, slow-simmered ramen, pillowy bao and a great beer and sake list, all on a lively Little Italy corner. Make it the first stop of a Little Italy afternoon, or the late-night bowl after one.
